here’s my first article from Day 2:
Graeme Gaughan, Creative Director at Tourne de Transmission, describes their AW17 collection entitled ‘NOWHERE’ as something that ‘looks inward and squarely at my home and where I grew up’.
This idea is a stark departure from the brand’s usual mission statement of taking everyone on a wanderlust-filled journey to far-off places. Their clothing is usually reminiscent of different cultures, whether inspired by religion or other lifestyle aspects, but this season, the collection is firmly rooted in Graeme’s teenage years and his adolescent way of thinking. In many respects, he treats this as a response to today’s political and social climate in terms of how the youth are treated and the huge division of ideals that permeate different social sectors.
Graeme states that music used to be, and still is, his solace and so the collection is entitled ‘NOWHERE’, named after RIDE’s album, which embodies a sense of frustration due to our innate inability to change anything as an individual.
Clothing this season is hugely dominated by outerwear pieces with long overcoats and hoodies taking centre stage. Design features such as large zips and exposed seams also make frequent appearances, showing a sense of rebellion and teen self-expression. The colour palette stayed true to the brand, with neutrals being used, and names of tracks from RIDE’s NOWHERE album were also printed in block capitals onto various items.
