Actually loved the inspiration behind this one:
Qasimi”s ‘Videogame Wars’ SS17 collection takes inspiration from the aftermath of military conflict and the ensuing hope of a bright new future. In particular, they reference the ‘Western military occupation of the Middle East’.
The devastation of war and the rebuilding of a city were reflected in the colours and silhouettes of the clothing as well as the set itself. Pastel tones of mint greens, nudes and whites were juxtaposed with deep blues and black to symbolise the light and dark of the world. The silhouettes were relaxed with loose, wide-legged trousers and oversized outerwear but some of the shirts were structured and seemed similar to the Army Combat Uniform, showing the eternal presence of the military.
The materials used were mainly those associated with Spring such as light linens, cottons and seersucker, which added a refreshing sense of ease and buoyancy. Since many of the looks involved layering, these fabrics kept the pieces from looking too heavy.
With regard to set design, it was essentially a raised metal structure on which the models stood. To me, this seemed to represent the future as the shininess denotes modernity but the simplicity and bareness of it signifies the amount of work that still has to be done in order to create a sustainable, successful future.
I feel that this was a modern, stylish collection but more importantly, it was a thought-provoking one, which really did shed light on the world’s current political state.
p.s I think one of the models actually nearly got heat stroke because someone had to lead him off the platform and he was swaying and stumbling and generally looking quite fatigued
